Threads of Excellence
The ecosystem of the organization nurtures the culture of excellence. Central to the ecosystem concept is the idea that living organisms interact with every other element in their local environment. The term ecosystem refers to the combined physical and biological components of an environment.
The values and beliefs associated with Culture of Excellence represent the different thread (components) in the ecosystem. These values can be elicited as below:
· Visionary leadership
· Customer-driven excellence
· Organizational and personal learning
· Valuing employees and partners
· Agility
· Focus on the future
· Managing for innovation
· Management by fact
· Social responsibility
· Focus on results and creating value
· Systems perspective
The common factor in all the aforementioned value is the Human Factor (a key biological component in the ecosystem). In organization and society the acts of Human is possibly one of the most mysterious phenomenon. Scientists from different field like sociologist, psychologist, and anthropologist invest significant time in understanding this factor.
We have seen many in our society who have excelled despite all adversities. We had several of them as our speakers in previous conference. Some well known faces of excellence are
1. Lance Armstrong
Won Tour de France after recovering from testicular cancer which had spread to his brain as well.
2. Stephen Hawking
Nobel Laureate in Physics whose life is on wheelchair
Theme for Event in 2010
“Threads of Xcellence” conference in 2010 would focus on this key factor. The process that leads to culture building the need to be part of the Culture of Excellence would be the focus for this conference.
The term culture has been close to human. The original meaning of culture is associated with tend, guard, cultivate, till. Culture represents collective customs and achievements of people. It is something that one cultivates and also uses to further the cause of human excellence.
"Culture" emerged as a concept central to anthropology, encompassing all human phenomena that are not purely results of human genetics.
Evolution has two aspects one being Progress and second being Wrong Turn. Excellence is all about belonging to the Progress. The questions that the conference would target to seek and answer would be:
- What would motivate an individual to excel?
- What / How to sustain the motivation that is necessary to excel?
- What is the process human adopts to make adjustments to the newer aspects of the ecosystem?
- Is excellence natural to human?
- What is the influence of environment and other human in excelling?
